Yelvertoft Parish Council Meetings
Yelvertoft Parish Council meets on the second Monday of every month (except August and January) in the Reading Room at 7.30pm. The agenda always has an ‘Open Session’ when residents can raise any issues. The agenda and minutes from each Parish Council Meeting are available in the Documents section of this website.

The Parish Council
Yelvertoft Parish Council has 9 members and employs a Clerk (The Proper Officer). Details of the Parish Councillors can be found in the Parish Councillors section of this website. The Parish Council, established in 1894, manages amongst many other things the street lighting, climate/environment, bins, the Cemetery, and also liaises with various departments at West Northamptonshire Council to deal with issues raised by residents and improve the village environment. Please see ‘Responsibilities’ under the ‘The Parish Council’ tab. The Parish Council is consulted on all planning matters in the village, and several of the Councillors form the planning Committee. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor then we would love to hear from you. To stand for election on a parish council, you must:
- be a UK or Commonwealth citizen; or
- be a citizen of the Republic of Ireland; or
- be a citizen of another Member state of the European Union; and
- be at least 18 years old.
- To be eligible to stand for an election for a particular parish, you must:
- be an elector of the parish; or
- in the past 12 months have occupied (as owner or tenant) land or other premises in the parish; or
- work in the parish (as your principal or only place of work); or
- live within three miles of the parish boundary.
You don’t have to be connected to a political party. Parish Councils are Apolitical.
If you do become a parish councillor you will have to sign up to the Code of Conduct.
Civility and Respect Pledge
Yelvertoft Parish Council adopted the Civility and Respect Pledge in 2023.
There is no place for bullying, harassment, and intimidation within our sector and signing up to the Civility and Respect Pledge is one of the ways a council can demonstrate that it is committed to standing up to poor behaviour across our sector, and to demonstrating positive changes which support civil and respectful conduct.
By signing the Pledge, council is agreeing that it will treat councillors, clerks, employees, members of the public, and representatives of partner organisations and volunteers with civility and respect in their roles, and that it:
- has put in place a training programme for councillors and staff
- has signed up to the Code of Conduct for councillors
- has good governance arrangements in place including staff contracts and a Dignity at Work policy
- will seek professional help at early stages should civility and respect issues arise
- will commit to calling out bullying and harassment if and when it happens
- will continue to learn from best practice in the sector and aspire to being a role model / champion council e.g., via Local Council Award Scheme
- supports the continued lobbying for change in legislation to support the civility and respect, including sanctions for elected members where appropriate
